INE CLAES (BRUSSELS, 1984)

Ine Claes is a Brussels-based vocal artist, music maker, composer, experimental choir conductor, performance maker and draughtswoman. Her transdisciplinary artistic language is characterized by the use of everyday materials which she transforms into disorienting worlds where the meaning and interrelationships of elements are constantly shifting. She works around social themes and human characteristics but transforms these elements into collage-like dimension where she aims to take viewers and listeners into a world far from any form of logic seeking. This refusal of logic is not incidental, but a deliberate statement against the rationalized, efficiency-driven logic of capitalist society, where meaning is constantly reduced to function and value is measured by productivity. By resisting clear narrative or linear interpretation, Claes creates space for association, ambiguity and play — qualities she considers essential counterweights to a world that increasingly demands legibility, usefulness and speed. Her worlds do not explain themselves; they invite the viewer to linger, to wander, and to experience meaning as something fluid rather than fixed, as an act of resistance against the compulsion to make everything make sense.

Originally coming from the dance and performance field she was, from 2013 to 2018, artistic director, choreographer, vocalist and dancer of the company Ballets Confidentiels that she founded with Johanne Saunier. 

After leaving the company she started developing her own vocal language and started creating her own music and sound, which became the essence of her practice today.

​​Next to her artistic creations and collaborations she organizes Lalagroove Experimental Choirs, for people who don't read classical music scores but want to sing in a group setting.​​ End of '26 she will also start Lalagroove KIDS. 

She works as a vocal coach and creates music and soundscapes for visual artists, choreographers and theatre makers. ​

Ine has collaborated or worked with visual artists, musicians, performers, choreographers and performers such as Line Boogaerts, Benjamin Vandewalle, Jan Martens, Andreas Halling, Aloun Marchal, Maja Jantar, Sabine Molenaer, Katrien Oosterlinck, Francesca Grilli, Otacilio Melgaço, Jim Clayburgh, Mathieu Calleja, Juan Parra Cancino, Francesca Grilli, Eric Thielemans, Jerzy Bielski, Marc Doutrepont, Joâo Lobo, Els Mondelaers, Johanne Saunier and many others.
