INE CLAES (BRUSSELS, 1984)
Ine is a vocal artist, composer, choreographer and performer. She creates multidisciplinary sound projects, music projects and performances where she mingles dance and voice. In her vocal language she works with daily sounds and her movement language is characterized by the transformation of daily movement and multitasking. By shifting the different layers of sound and movement in relation to each other she creates disorientating worlds where the relation between sound and movement transforms continuously, taking the daily character to a dreamy, surrealist or absurd dimension.
Ine also likes drawing.
Ine has collaborated with visual artists, musicians, performers, choreographers and performers such as Line Boogaerts, Benjamin Vandewalle, Andreas Halling, Aloun Marchal, Fabienne Seveillac, Maja Jantar, Otacilio Melgaço, Jim Clayburgh, Mathieu Calleja, Juan Parra Cancino, Eric Thielemans, Jerzy Bielski, Joâo Lobo, Els Mondelaers and many others. Since 2017 her work has been supported by C-TAKT, Muziekcentrum De Bijloke, Kunstencentrum BUDA, Kunstencentrum KAAP, Musica Impulscentrum voor Muziek, La PLace de la Danse CDCN Toulouse Occitanie, Théâtre de Vanves, Nadine, Workspace Brussels, QO-2, Casco/30CC, Schouwburg Corso and many others.
BACKGROUND
After graduating from the Amsterdam School of the Arts in 2008, Ine's interest in movement and the visual arts led her to collaborate on interventions in public space, short films and installations with various visual artists such as Liesbeth Marit, Tomas Israel & Jacques Urbanska, Koen Moerenhout and Sara Claes. Her interest in the world of sound grew over the years and she became a voice autodidact. In 2012 she created her first work bringing together voice, movement and public space in the duet Riptide with Aloun Marchal, premiering at Nuit Blanche Brussels 2012. As a dancer and vocalist she has worked with Jerzy Bielski, Marion Levy, Sabine Molenaar, Cie Le Cardage, Aloun Marchal and others. In 2018, she was assistante mise en scène at the Lille Opera for Arthur Lavandier's opera La Légende du Roi Dragon.
In 2013, together with Johanne Saunier, she founded the music and dance project Ballets Confidentiels in which the duo brought together voice, music and dance. The company created pieces intended for the unconventional space. Ine created and performed a broad repertoire and worked with various composers, writers and musicians including Georges Aperghis, Joâo Lobo, Martin Crimp, Quatuor Tana, Toma Gouband. The projects were shown in a.o. Handelsbeurs, Bozar, Paris Quartier d'été, Maison de La Danse Lyon, Odegand,... After 5 years, Ine left Ballets Confidentiels to concentrate on her own research and to develop works for which she creates the voice and sound herself.
